A lot of us were raised to always put others first... we always came last. However, since we are the one who is "in charge" of our own self, we need to take care of our own self first. Others need to take care of themselves first as well.
This doesn't mean we don't share our time and energy with others, but it does mean that we take responsibility for our own health and happiness.
A good place to start is by asking ourselves each morning "What can I do today to make myself happy?" Also, if you find yourself feeling down or sad or tired during the day, asking the question again -- What can I do today to make myself happy? -- and taking at least one action in response, is a good idea.
